Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater presents the 2008 American Spanish Dance Festival  -- ALUMNI discounts available

Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater, in residence at NEIU, will present the 32nd annual American Spanish Dance Festival from June 18 through 30 on NEIU's main campus and throughout the Chicagoland area. This year's festival will include a Spanish art exhibition, a Flamenco music concert, Spanish dance and music classes, a cocktail reception, and three gala performances by the full company of dancers alongside guest artists.

An exhibition of paintings and sculptures by Spanish artists Yolanda Blanco and Ana Maria Llestin will be on display from June 18 through July 18 at Galeria Gala, 66 E. Walton, Second Floor, in Chicago. A cocktail reception to open the show will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 18. Admission to the reception and exhibition is free. Duende Flamenco, a special tribute concert to Flamenco singer Maria Elena "La Cordobesa" will be held at 7:30 p.m. on June 19 in the NEIU Steinberg Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. Performers will include Las Guitarras de España, Antonio Gabarri Jiménez, Paco Fonta and Pansequito. General admission is $20, $15 students and seniors. For tickets call (773) 442-4636.

Spanish dance and music classes and workshops will be held on the NEIU campus from June 20 through 26. For more information and registration call (773) 442-5916.

Three gala performances will feature Ensemble Español's full company of dancers and guest artists Carmela Greco, Christian Lozano and Paloma Gomez. Highlights of this program include the world premiere of "Escencia," choreographed by Dame Libby Komaiko, artistic director, and "No Me Olvides," choreographed by Irma Suarez Ruiz, associate artistic director and first dancer. Performances will be held at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, 9501 Skokie Blvd. in Skokie at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 29. General admission is $36 and $26, $5 discount for seniors, students and children under 12. NEIU Alumni receive a $5 discount with the password "BOLERO."
